… many kashmiris are using Nur Qalam. I myself know about 10 kashmiris who use it and I suggest whosoever i meet to use it. this drive will continue, insha Allah

Yours is a great job. … is working on the same project. when they read about your contribution in the newspaper they got perplexed to know that a single person has done what a team of many fellows is trying to do for the last ten months. Your contribution has made them to reshape their project.

Thank you; this is encouraging. The whole idea in doing this humble job was to provide a basis and inspire others to work on it.

i was going through your website, i must congratulate you for your efforts. Your website is undoubtedly a great peace of work! I am interested in writing my emails to family in kashmiri language. can you please send me the software through email, so that i can type it in kashmiri language. thanks in advance,

Thank for appreciating this humble effort. This website is in the process of development and its full potential can be realized only through the participation of people like you who love their language.

Please :
1. Download the keyboard from
http://www.kashmirilanguage.com/keyboard.html

2. unzip it and
3. double click on the setup to install it. If you have windows XP, you may have to:
1. Go to Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages, and check “Install files for complex scrips and right-to-left...”
2. Again, in Regional and language Options>Details and click on Add, check keyboard layout, and in the menu check Urdu (it does not have Kashmiri option.)

It is a little bit confusing, but once you get it you can not only write email but also create your own website with your subject in focus, and that will be a service. We will help you step by step. Don’t hesitate to write to us if you have questions.

Since our institute is dealing with all the Indian languages, we would like to key in some Kashmiri data in word document. In this regard, we came to know that your organization has developed Kashmiri font and layout to enable to type Kashmiri text directly in word document with out use of any third party tool. Already we have installed 'Narqalam' font in our system we would like to have Kashmiri keyboard layout to type in. It will be very helpful if you could send the keyboard layout. It may be noted that, whatever the data we are going to create is purely for educational and research purpose only.

Please download the keyboard from our website:

I have it installed on Widows Vista and Windows XP without any issues. You only have to double click on the Setup.
Hopefully, when it is installed, these complex scripts need some fidgeting around. In Windows Vista, it work without any hastle. In XP, you may have to:
1. Go to Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages, and check “Install files for complex scrips and right-to-left...”
2. Go to Regional and language Options>Details and click on Add, check keyboard layout, and in the menu check Urdu (it does not have Kashmiri option.)
I did this on Windows XP, and even after that, I had to shut down the computer and restart after sometime to find it working for me.
When it is successfully installed and working for you, please share your experience with us.
You may like to download one MS Word file and a PDF version of the same file to make sure how the final product of this software should look. The files are her:

Being aware of the working of your Institute, I am happy you would use it; I hope it works well for you

I downloaded the file but we are facing some problems in installing. While installing the kashmiri_ia64.msi, Kashmiri_amd64.msin an error is being displayed as "THIS INSTALLATION PACKAGE IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROCESSOR TYPE IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROCESSOR TYPE. CONTACT YOUR PRODUCT VENDOR".

Our system processor is INTEL  (R) CORE TM2 DUO CPU, of 2.4GHz RAM...

Please let us know what should be the configuration of the system which is compatible for the installation of kashmiri font key board lay out.

We also would like to know How much you will charge for transferring the text from INPAGE to MSOFFICE. After transferring into MSOFFICE, the Kashmiri text can be readable in bilingual font?.

This is an unusual problem and I don't have a ready answer. What I can tell you is that I have it installed on Widow Vista and Windows XP without any issues. If you try it on some other computer, maybe it works. Obviously what you do is only double click on the Setup.
Hopefully, when it is installed, these complex scripts need some fidgeting around.

Even after that I had to shut down the computer and restart after sometime to find it working for me.

Our charges for reproducing the files are nominal, even none for some documents, but will that help you? I would suggest that you use some text form our website and see if it works through all your processing. Of course you need to install Narqalam and see that the text looks right. You may use the Word and PDF files on our site to compare text on your computer. The files are at
http://www.kashmirilanguage.com/Textsamples.html
If it works for you, please send me the file, and I will get back to you. As we have said, this is all in experimental stage, please bear with us.

I was able to download Narqalam on my work computer and also i see the direction for Urdu. So i can type Arabic. Also your Kashmiri site shows all the text correctly without a problem. This is a great achievement. I wish people can use it in Kashmir.
Because of InPage, I am so used to phonetic keyboard. Typing with Arabic is going to be a nightmare.

Kashmiri keyboard uses the standard Windows format for Arabic and all languages using Arabic script. All I have done is that I have accommodated Kashmiri without disturbing the English/Urdu capability of the Windows keyboard, and placing the Kashmiri characters at convenient keys.
Inpage has separate keyboard layouts for Kashmiri and Urdu, you have to change from one to other. Yes that is phonetic; if that is the issue, I can make a phonetic keyboard just like Inpage for you.
Look, rather than waiting for anyone in Kashmir to come forward, I would be happy to see you using it at least for one short coulmn of your paper.
There are two choices; one, that you learn using the Windows keyboard; it will be a nightmare but for three days. Two, you e-mail me the item typed in Inpage, I will reproduce it in MS Word format and return for inclusion in your magazine.

May Allah give you full Jazza for your efforts. I am a keen student of Kashmiri language and am passionate about its development. Please remain in touch. Mr. … knows me and my interest in the language quite well.
Allah thawnow wareh wateh. (اللہ تھٲوـ̡ نو وارٕ)

Thank you. I have loaded the sound tract of a video recording of a Husaini Mushairah on www.kashmirilanguage.com. This Mushairah was held at Srinagar sometime in 1985. (I don't remember the exatct year.) I thought you may like to listen.
